LiveWell receives capacity-building grant award from Kansas Health Foundation

Updated: Feb 24, 2019

With tremendous gratitude, the Livewell Northwest Kansas family would like to thank the Kansas Health Foundation for their support of a comprehensive marketing and communications program for the duration of 2019.

Since it's inception in 1979, the LiveWell organization had successfully operated under the name Northwest Kansas Council on Substance Abuse, Inc., implementing regional and state-wide initiatives to improve the culture of health and well-being, with a strong emphasis on alcohol and drug abuse education and prevention. Throughout it's 38 year history, missions and goals evolved to reflect the ever-changing needs of our community and in 2018, the non-profit organization based in Colby, Kan., officially received a name change to more accurately reflect regional expansions and broadened missions.

In addition to a new name, a new strategic direction of LiveWell Northwest Kansas was set and initiated by the board of directors after the completion of a comprehensive strategic plan. And, a new mission statement was created:

"Working to make Northwest Kansas a healthier place for all to live, work, and play."

The recent grant funding received by the Kansas Health Foundation will be used to promote the missions, activities and programs of the organization and how it has evolved into LiveWell Northwest Kansas.

PROMOTING HEALTH & EDUCATION

Health and education are linked and have a direct impact on community health outcomes. The grant award received by the Kansas Health Foundation will have a direct benefit on LiveWell's education objectives as we not only live up to our new mission statement, but also contribute to the missions of the Kansas Health Foundation, "to create a culture in which every Kansan can make healthy choices where they live, work and play," and our shared goals of improving healthy behaviors, civic/community engagement and educational attainment.

The strategic goals that can be realized by this grant award include LiveWell's ability to advance health equity in the region by promoting alternative avenues for accessing healthy food and physical activity; promoting and advocating for tobacco-free public policies; promoting solutions that are evidence-based and community informed; engaging diverse organizations, partners and communities; being a catalyst for a culture of health in all populations, places and policies; and, building a foundation for children and families through strong families, health development and early learning.
